Holy Cross Summer Camp

Two weeks of summer programs!

June 4 - 8

Chess Camp

Studies have shown that students who play chess do better in school. Chess has shown to enhance analytical, critical thinking, and visualization skills. During chess camp students will be taught more advanced principles of chess including: game types, mating patterns, positional considerations, pawn formations, and the endgame. This program will teach the students, through lessons that build on each other, to master the game of chess. Mastery challenges will be presented each day. This is a 5-day intensive camp that meets 3 hours per day.

Financial Camp

As a practical matter, every adult has to deal with money and interact with a number of financial institutions in the course of daily life. Yet, among the subjects students are taught in school, there is not much focus on managing money. Financial Camp is a practical introduction to the everyday interactions we all have with money. Students can expect to be busy with hands-on activities. They will role play as their own financial selves: opening bank accounts, shopping, paying bills, receiving paychecks, processing account statements, and considering investments. We'll present realistic simulations of several banking interactions. We'll study the fictional story of a family's venture in the stock market. Students will learn a number of financial terms and concepts, including from explanations presented to the class by students. We'll also play some games.

Combining economic, political and psychological effects with military maneuvers are the higher level strategy known as “grand strategy.”
